With a unsettled low and high pressure working for dominance the weekends weather was all over the place and as this was our getting to grips with moving water, swell, surf and wind, we would certainly find all of that!
With a forecast of F5/6 NE some shelter and conditions was what I was looking for and were I could also provide mix of conditions to suit individuals. Following coffees, and a chat we set off for Y Felinheli, on the Menai Straits. It was a little busy on arrival with lots of small sailing dinghies, but we were soon on and out of each others way and paddling into a f4 head wind!
After some initial circuits (yep we found some good shelter) we started to explore, skeg, edge and stern rudders and use of speed, to either gain control on a turn or to further assist with balance and stability. Ben above showing some good skills, considering it was 10 months between his last time in a sea kayak ... and almost on the ride!
Keith really getting in there, managing his boat well and keeping a good track ....
Some good active blade work, balance and gaining control ...
Denis getting a feel for the following sea ...
Katie and far to much smiling for me .... joking ;)
Simon on one of the earlier circuits ...
Just before our lunch break, which was super sunny spot ...
Ben finishing off with some swell paddling!!
Had to postpone Sunday due to winds increasing to F7/8, with heavy rain ... oh hum, better to be safe than sorry!!
Well done to one and all.
